Booking and Attending an Appointment at the State Hospital
To see a doctor at a TRNC State Hospital, you must now book an appointment through the Central Appointment Booking Service (Merkezi Randevu Sistemi) on 1101.
The service is available Monday to Friday, 08:00–15:00.
1. Information you need to make an appointment
Have the following information ready when you call:
-
Hospital
For example:-
Dr. Akçiçek Hospital, Girne
-
Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, Lefkoşa
-
Gazimağusa State Hospital
-
-
Department (Bölüm)
For example:-
Ortopedi – Orthopaedics
-
Genel Cerrahi – General Surgery
-
See the list below for the Turkish names of hospital departments, which may be useful when booking an appointment.
-
Patient's name
Give the name exactly as it appears on the patient's passport. -
Patient's Residency Number / TRNC ID / Work Permit Number
For people who have a Residency Permit, the required number is the 10-digit number beginning with 9, shown above the barcode on the residency permit.
If you have an exemption from residency: you will need to find your Residency Number from your previous residency documentation.
If you have never had a Residency Number: you must first register on the Temporary Residency System. After completing the first stage of registration, you will receive a Residency Number and a one-time-use password by SMS. You can then use the Residency Number to make hospital appointments. You do not need to complete the rest of the residency application for this purpose.
-
Preferred appointment date
If a doctor has told you to make an appointment in two weeks, give the operator the date you want.
If you want the earliest appointment available, tell the operator and they will give you the first available date.
-
TRNC mobile phone number
Provide a mobile number to which they can send the appointment confirmation by SMS.
2. Calling 1101
You will normally have to wait in a telephone queue. The initial recorded message is in Turkish and there is no option to select English. Stay on the line until your call is placed in the queue. The system regularly tells you your position in the queue. Do not hang up, as you will lose your place and have to start again. At present, waiting times can be around 30 minutes.
When your call is answered, ask whether the operator speaks English. Be aware that most operators speak only limited English. Give the information listed above, starting with the hospital and department.
Keep the conversation brief and to the point. Avoid giving unnecessary information or engaging in extended conversation, as there is a risk that the call may be disconnected and you will have to start the process again.
3. Confirmation of your appointment
Once the appointment has been booked, you will receive an SMS confirming the date and time of your appointment. Keep this SMS, as you will need to show it when you arrive at the hospital.
4. Arriving at the hospital
On the day of your appointment:
-
Arrive at the hospital between 08:00 and 08:30.
-
Go to the Reception (Randevu). Show them your appointment confirmation SMS. They will register you for your appointment.
-
Go to the Cashier's desk (Vezne) and pay the appointment fee. The current fee is 400 TL (August 2026). You will receive a payment receipt.
-
Take the receipt back to the Appointment Office. They will give you a small patient label containing your details.
-
Take the label to the relevant doctor's room and wait outside to be called.
The label may show either your position in the queue or your formal appointment time. Pay attention to who is already waiting so that you do not accidentally miss your turn.
Patients who are particularly unwell, have mobility difficulties, are in a wheelchair, etc., may sometimes be seen before other patients. If the patient cannot wait for a long period or needs to be seen urgently, make this clear to the hospital staff.
If You Do Not Have an Appointment
If you need to see a doctor urgently but do not have a booked appointment, go to the hospital's Accident & Emergency Department (Acil Servis).
At Accident & Emergency:
-
Register at the reception.
-
You will be triaged by the medical staff.
-
They will assess how urgently you need to be seen.
-
You will then wait until you are called to see a doctor.
Accident & Emergency should be used for urgent medical problems. For routine consultations, you should make an appointment through 1101.
